~ Southern Home Show

HomeShowSPRNGI should have posted this earlier, but I didn’t think to since we are already planning on going, but this weekend is/was the Southern Ideal Home Show at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.  Its a pretty big event, and a lot of vendors are set up for anything and everything home related, indoor and outdoor.

There is a $1 off coupon on their website, and General Info: http://www.southernshows.com/hsr/?general_info=1&

Last year, Gary won a signed baseball.  Maybe we’ll win something again this year -woo!

~ I’ve Been “Away” Because . . .

gaming

In the past few months, maybe more I’ve been “away”.  Not on a trip, and not elsewhere physically, but “away” . . . from popular sites, my blog reader, my blog, my twitter updating, just “away”.

Not completely away, I do skim them occasionally, but I wanted a break from the constant stream of updates from friends, people I know, people I don’t know, and honestly life goes on even if you don’t know every detail going on in the world 😛

So what have I been doing if I’m not reading stuff on the internets, interwebs, and the world wide web?

Playing game of course (duh), I can’t be too far from a ‘puter -haha

Oh, and reading a lot . . . Gary and I go to the local libraries and check out enough books to start our own library.  Mostly because Gary inhales books in a couple days, a day, a few hours?  and I don’t like hopping in the car every time I need new reading material.

Speaking of which, have you heard of the Kindle by Amazon?  I know a few people that have one, and on trips, I have met people that have and love it.  You can get books from anywhere without an internet connection in seconds and it holds over 1,500 books, lets you read newspapers from all over the place . . . read all the features on their site if you are interested. It’s $300 for the latest and greatest one -BUT- I stumbled upon an article (on amazon I believe) that said if you have an ipod touch, or an iphone, they have a Kindle App . . . SWEEET!!

I just downloaded it, along with the Barnes and Noble App (both free).  Looks like I have to sign up for an account so I’ll be doing some comparing, but I’m Super excited!  Whatever books you buy, they keep ’em backed up for you, so if you use their computer reader, or if you have a new device, you don’t lose your books, they sync up.

Now I just need to finish the free e-books I already have on my ipod, and I just found two apps, one for 23,469 free books ($1.99 download), and one for 2,300 free audio books ($0.99 download) . . .

These are gonna be great for our upcoming trips . . . though I wish apple would have an ipod touch that gets internet (basically an iphone that’s not a phone) because I love my blackberry, and more importantly the Verizon Network.  Oh, and make the ipod touches bigger.  If its basically an entertainment device, they don’t need to be as small as their phone.  Phones need to be more pocket portable.  Or offer both and make more money 😀

Ok so I wasn’t planning on this post to be so long 😳 , but basically I’ll post something later once I’ve played more with the ipod kindle/barnes and noble apps.

~ The Key To My . . . ?

Last weekend Gary and I celebrated my mom’s birthday, and one of the things we did was go to the local fairgrounds where they have people set up with booths, and we looked mostly at the antiques.  Passing by one booth, this small key caught my fancy, and for $2 (originally $3, though I only had two, one dollar bills and asked if I could have it for $2 . . . and it was smaller than the other keys in that tray:) )

I just love the shape, the size, the end of the key that almost looks like a heart, the engraving ‘b4’ on it . . .

I know exactly what I am going to do with a key that doesn’t fit anything I know of . . . thoughts?  guesses?

I’ll post a photo later . . . I am going to acquire the other half of the puzzle today 😛

~ Blackberry ‘Page Up’ Shortcut

So, I forgot I can post updates from my blackberry, but prolly because I like posting photos and that doesn’t work so well here for a few reasons . . . ANYWAY

I am super stoked that I found a way to “page up” faster with the shortcut 🙂

If you’re looking at tons of e-mails, web pages etc, you can “page down” by hitting the space bar, which I knew how to do, and it works like that on most PC’s -but- If you want to “page up” quickly, press down the caps button (aA with the arrow above it) and hit the space bar and it does the opposite and pages up.

Woohoo! This is going to save a ton of scrolling through stuff I don’t need to read 😀

One more thing . . . if you are at the bottom of a web page and want to get to the top . . . instead of page up, page up, page up, you can just press the letter ‘T’ button and it brings you to the top or ‘B’ to get to the very bottom.

sweeeeet.  i ❤ shortcuts!

~ The Big Fork and Spoon

If you’ve seen the tv show ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’, a memorable episode was the one about the big fork and spoon.

Gary and I were out shopping for a few gifts at Pier 1, and these totally stood out.  Lucky you who we were shopping for, that the pair of these were out of our price range for a semi-gag gift 😛

BUT, if you would like to adorn your home with these ginormous almost 4 feet utensils, you can get them here:  the big fork and the big spoon.  The website so does not do them justice.

~ From Atlanta

puppy Gary was in Atlanta overnight, and while that isn’t a long time, if you have kept up with the blog, you may remember other trips Gary went on . . .

I don’t know exactly when it started, but every new place he travels to, he brings back a small stuffed animal with the name of the state, or city he has visited without me.

Here’s the cute soft little blue with purple puppy an he’s wearing a white collar, red tie, quite a proper lil’ puppy.

We’re gonna have so many stuffed animals for our kids -haha

~ Experimenting with New Methods of Visual Entertainment

When it comes to photography, I can see a shot, a vision in my head or I can see it while I’m in the process of creating a beautiful image or setting up or capturing a story.

Design, like computer graphics on the other hand is not something I can see in my head like other talented graphics and animation artists do (which is probably why my once dream of becoming an animation artist for cinema wore off 😛 on top of the other reasons like burnout, moving to CA or NY, etc., etc.)

I’m more “I know it when I see it” and “I have to play around with it before I know that I’ll like it”.  Other art forms I can appreciate and like, but know for sure It’s not my passion.  My attention span for some things is also limited, so . . .

I’ve decided to start playing around with a little design, a little experimentation, and with a little imagination and some magic pixie dust? I’ll be documenting it here. I don’t know what I’ll be doing it’s more of a “hey, that’s cool I wanna attempt it at least once”

So I’ve started a ‘category’ called ‘Design’ and all my experiments will be categorized there.  So maybe once I learn a bunch of cool stuff I can actually know what I want to use it for  🙂

~ When Does Your Christmas Countdown Begin?

It’s SEPTember already!  3 months until the holiday where a lot of buying, celebrating, family, friends getting together, traveling, and eating too much will commence.  WOW.  2010 is arooouuuund the corner.

I’ve already started thinking about my lists.  Gift list, shopping list, packing list, grocery list, travel list, Christmas card list.  Mind you, I said thinking about, not actually started yet -haha, but it’s gonna be here before you know it.  At least I have little helpers.  Here’s one of mine from last year . . . I think there are a few bows still under the bed for safe keeping for next time 😀

~ Labour Day Weekend . . . w/ a Trip to the NC Art Museum

Yes, I know it was 3 days ago, but I’m just getting back into the week just to get ready for the weekend again 🙂

On Saturday, Gary and I went to the Art Museum.  Sunday was the last day the “old” art museum is going to be open.  They’ve been building a NEW art museum.  Bigger, better, solar powered, white, shiny, windowed glass building.  They are keeping the old one too, but you won’t be able to check out the snazzy-ness til sometime in April of 2010 -but- you can check out the building and photos on their website http://ncartmuseum.org
