Our Wedding: Vendors & Details

Since we have 4 or 5 friend’s weddings to go to this year I have been getting a lot of questions such as who did you use or which ____ did you use? So here is an entry just for them πŸ™‚

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment.

And if you use any of these vendors, please let them know you found them through Sue-Leigh and Gary!

  • Wedding Dress was from David’s Bridal
  • after the wedding, I had my dress Cleaned and Preserved through whichever company David’s Bridal works with.
  • Bridesmaids Dresses were from David’s Bridal. This was great since half of the wedding party was from out of town and there are David’s Bridals all over the place and the bridesmaids got a discount since I got my wedding dress from there.
  • Groom and Groomsman Tuxes (Tails) were rented from Men’s Wearhouse. Also great for out of town fittings and the groom gets a free tux rental with atleast 5 rentals.
  • Our Wedding Location and Reception was at Barclay Villa. I can not say enough good things about them.
  • Catering was by Frisco’s City Club who is the exclusive caterer to Barclay Villa. Linens, table decorations, runner, and even the cake stand were all included and not extra. Chair sashes, gold chivari chairs, etc.
  • Wedding Cake was by Creative Cakes by Rene the cake was good, but tasted like any other wedding cake but looks awesome in pictures!
  • I made the name place cards (pink for chicken, red for beef) from paper found at Michaels Ast & Crafts Store and the accent flowers were also from there (around the base of the wedding cake) and on the place settings
  • Rehearsal Dinner was at The Twisted Fork if you know me or have read past posts, you know it’s my favourite restaurant -hehe
  • Hotel Block was for Fairfield Inn & Suites Crabtree

Some of our wedding photos and our ‘rave’ was used on her website . . . type in ‘Jessica Key’ in the search field of my blog to see where on her site they are.

  • We went to Greece for our Honeymoon and used Maupin Travel Agency

Williams-Sonoma: Carrot Soup with Coriander

Gary and I went to a local Williams-Sonoma October 2nd 2005 and had a sample of their Carrot Soup with Coriander which was so delicious. I picked up two of the recipe books and have been meaning to make the soup, but every time I was going to, I mis-placed the book. I’d find the book and then lose it again. This has been going on for a while now. I have not been able to find this recipe online, not even on the Williams and Sonoma website (http://www.williams-sonoma.com/) but tonight I found the booklet!

Future recipes I post will be ones that I have made, and proudly stand behind as a great recipe. But since we have tried the soup, know it’s delicious (and since I don’t want to lose the reipe once again) I’m going to go ahead and post the recipe and make notes on it later. Let me know if you try it!

This is from the Founder’s Day book. Selected Recipes from Chuck Williams 2005. Enjoy!

The arrival of the food processor in the late 1970s revolutionized the way Americans were making soups. We discovered pureed soup, which could be assembled from all sorts of different vegetables, like carrots used here. This recipe shows how we were becoming more adventurous with our use of exotic spices and fresh herbs. The ground coriander and chopped cilantro give the soup its wonderful bright, fresh taste.

Equipment List:
Measuring cups and spoons
Vegetable peeler
Chef’s knife
Cutting board
Saucepan
Wooden spoon
Food processor
Ladle

Ingredients:
1/3 Cup (90g) unsalted butter
1 small yellow onion, diced
1 Tbs. chopped garlic
1lb. (1kg) carrots (12 to 14), peeled and cut crosswise into slices 1/2 inch (12mm) thick
1 baking potato, 8 to 9 oz. (250 to 280g), peeled and cut into small cubes
1 tsp. ground coriander
4 cups (1 l) chicken stock
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups (500ml) milk, or as needed
Freshly ground pepper
2 to 3 Tbs. dry sherry
1/2 cup (125ml) sour cream
1/4 cup (10g) chopped fresh cilantro

In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter. When the butter is hot, add the onion and saute, stirring occasionally, until translucent, 3 to 5 minutes. Add the garlic and saute, stirring, until it begins to change colour, 20 to 30 seconds. Add the carrots, potato and ground coriander and saute, stiring a couple of times, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the stock, sugar and salt and raise the heat to medium. Bring to a simmer, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover partially, and continue simmering until the vegetables are soft when pierced with the tip of a knife, 20-25 minutes. Remove from the heat.

In a food processor fitted with the metal blade or in a blender, process the vegetables in small batches with their stock until smooth. (The soup may be made ahead to this point, covered and refrigerated for up to 2 days.)

Return the puree to the saucepan and add 2 cups (500ml) milk and pepper to taste. Place over medium heat and heat almost to a boil. Taste and add the seasonings. If the soup is too thick, add milk as needed to thin. Just before serving stir in the sherry to taste.

To serve, ladle into warmed soup bowls. Top each bowl with a spoonful of sour cream and a sprinkling of cilantro. Serve immediately. Serves 6.

We’re in ‘Southern Bride and Groom’ and ‘The Knot’ Magazines

Check out Southern Bride and Groom Volume XXIV/2007 pages 36-37. Barclay Villa used the photos from our wedding taken by Walters & Walters in their 2 page spread! (one of the photographers was Jessica Key).

Today I went to the Forever Bridal Show at the Fairgrounds and saw Teresa and Dee there . . . they told me that we were in their ad and to check it out. I wouldn’t have known about it if I hadn’t gone . . .

All the photos (except the one in the very right bottom on the second page) were taken at our wedding. It’s so cool to see our wedding pictures in print where a ton of people see it!

Here is the front cover if you are looking for the mag

One of the photos from our wedding was also used on the back cover of The Knot North Carolina magazine Spring/Summer 2007, but it’s the same photo used on the first page of the Southern Bride and Groom mag. ad (first one in the second row where you can see the ballroom and the table setting).

Back from a Movie Premiere

A friend and I just went to the movie premiere of ‘Code Name: The Cleaner‘ (official site: http://www.thecleanermovie.com/). That’s right, we just saw a movie that isn’t even out yet in theaters! Well, it will be out this friday, but still! There were reserved seats for the movie critcs (most of whom were not there) and we got to go for free.

There weren’t any pre-views in the beginning and we all got free bandannas with an ad for Disney’s Air Buddies DVD which will be out December 12th. Gus will be sporting it around soon (pictures later I’m sure πŸ™‚ ) And I won two other things! A ‘Code Name: The Cleaner‘ t-shirt and a DVD (called ‘Spymate’) a kids movie that I don’t think I will ever watch, but it was fun winning stuff πŸ™‚

Before we went to the premiere, Gary met us at Fudrucker’s (http://www.fuddruckers.com/) where on the website they claim to have that worlds greatest hamburgers and I must say the one I got was pretty darn good! The oreo shake was awsome too.

It was a good night.

Happy New Year!

Looking forward to 2007! So far Gary and I will be going to 4 or 5 weddings, Gary being the best man in one, and I will be a bridesmaid in two.

We will try and make a trip or two up north to see the family later in the year and possibly a mini-weekend vacation here and there.

Be sure to keep checking back as I post to keep you updated on recent events, and with lots of pictures πŸ™‚

Don’t forget to stay in touch, and e-mail me if you want to get together for dinner or something. Before you know it, we’ll be into 2008!
