Hurricane Irene has hit the coast, but so far we have not seen much. Just a bit of rain yesterday evening and last night.

Doctor, Work, then Birthday Celebrating
In the morning I took my parents to see the radiology oncologist for a checkup. Nothing much to report there, they just wanted to ask him if he had any symptoms.
In the morning my dad had another bloody nose (after having cauterized the spots yesterday), so after the oncologist visit, I called the other doctor and they said they don’t want to do anything with the nose right away to give what was done already time to heal. It wasn’t as bad as the previous day, but they said if it persists, to let them know and come back.
I worked after the doctor visit, and in the evening, we met a friend for his birthday. Gary and I had both gotten him a birthday balloon (we didn’t see each others message about picking one up), so he had two balloons 🙂
After dinner and then hung out at Starbucks. We were going to see a movie, but we scheduled that for Sunday since Gary was out of town and had to study for Korean class, so we are going to see a movie on Sunday.
Update on Dad
About a week ago, my dad’s foot was swelling up and bothering him. My parents had to get new shoes for him because the current ones were rubbing on his swollen foot. The new shoes seem to help.
This past Monday, my parents went to the doctor’s. They thought it was a spider bite and said to stop the chemo pill early (original stop date was today) and to come back in a few days if the swelling hadn’t gone down. They took blood and his labs looked good.
Today, his appointment was for around lunch time, but this morning he had a bloody nose for about half an hour – so they went to the doctors early.
Turns out there were openings in his nose that had to be cauterized, so they went to an ENT to get that taken care of. He did have a spider bite, and the swelling has been going down.
He seems to be doing ok . . . he goes to see the brain oncologist tomorrow.
Korean Tea
I have been drinking these Korean teas lately. One is an instant honeyed date tea, and the other is a barley tea (보리차). The Korean restaurant I go to usually only serves barley tea in cold weather but you can have it hot or cold.

5.9 Earthquake Trembles

At 1:51pm, Virginia got a 5.9 Earthquake today, and we felt it . . . even people in New Jersey felt it.
We had people doing construction next door, but they weren’t doing anything when this happened. It felt like someone was jumping up and down shaking the building a bit continuously for a minute or so.

Korean School (한국 학교)
This week, Gary and I started Korean School (한국 학교)
We have 2 hours of language learning and 1 hour culture elective (we are both taking cooking). Our cooking teacher only speaks in Korean but we have a translator for now, but our homework is to learn the cooking terms for when she tells us what to bring or what to do.
I found a neat phone app for flash cards (flashcardlet), so I created a set for the cooking terms.
Summer Weather Snacks
Tonight I met some people at a local Korean cafe and market for dinner. The store was closing so we were talking outside and the owner who was really nice and said we could stay longer inside. We didn’t want to inconvenience him since the store had closed. he came out and gave us all a melon ice bar . . . then a little bit later he came out with the icecream sandwiches (Korean style). So nice ^^

Bath Night
Tonight was bath night for my little dog. He’s so fluffy that you don’t always see how small he actually is until he’s all wet and full of soap, but when he gets out of the bath, he is super excited and runs around as if he thought he’d never get out ^^
