~ The Pixel Cam is Up!

Wow, who knew I would be so into a hamster? Well maybe all you that know me knew, since I love animals, but anyway!

I have the Pixel Cam up! You can get to the cam by clicking on Pixel-Cam! to the right (photo).

I didn’t want to spend too much on a webcam, but I wanted a decent quality video, so I got the Dynex 1.3MP Webcam, and it does a great job! True plug-and-play, no need to install the included software.

I’ll have the Pixel-Cam on mostly in the evenings and weekends, and occasionally in the morning if he is out. You can check out the videos recorded too . . . and all this just because I wanted to be able to see him when I’m not there.

~ Another Reason Why I Love Pixel’s House

There are several types of homes you can get for a hamster. The one I chose (see post below) was a little pricey but well worth it! I’ll explain . . .

Last night I got a clear (so I could see him better) Run-About Ball (about $4).

Robo’s need a lot of attention if you want to hold them eventually, and even then it’s rare to be able to easily. I’m afraid of picking him up because I don’t want to hold him to tight, but then if I don’t hold him tight enough he will find a way out of my hands and onto the floor – and they are fast runners!

So! Why I love this house I got him. There are several options for houses (read about housing at the links below). This one is so cool because when Pixel went to run around in his wheel, I could actually take the wheel off and put the entry way into the clear ball’s entry way. There is also a divider between the house and the wheel to close access to/from the wheel. So moving him from his house to the ball and back again is fairly seamless as long as you tilt and are careful!

Looking at some of the other house options, the wheel was inside (less floor space) and it is hard to get them if they are in the “underground” section. If you go with the aquarium type, you may risk stressing out your hamster trying to either get him in the ball (scooping method) or trying to pick him up.

I figure if he wants to exercise in his wheel, he may as well exercise in the ball 🙂
I also don’t leave him in there for long periods of time since there is no food or water and he can get to like he can in his house . . . plus I’d rather not have to clean out poop. If you do though, I was told to use vinegar and water, not soap and water.

I also got something neat last night . . . while I got the premium fluff for him to burrow under, super odor absorbent and such, I also got (hoping it works) gerbil/hamster litter. It was $3 for a big bag, and instead of getting the plastic potty they can chew on, I got another (but tan) food dish. I think he

If you are interested in getting any kind of pet, it’s good to do your research, which I did. Some hamsters like to be held more than others, make sure you have one that is the right size for you and your home, make sure you have all the things they need before you get your hamster, etc.

I went to wikipedia and followed the links at the end of the article which helped. :

~ Pixel Eating

Official day one for Pixel in his new house (which I got at Petco). I like that is has a few levels (though he most likely won’t climb up to the very top) but I can also get attachments and tubes to connect more tubes or another house. I got the one by SAM:

I had my point and shoot camera on no flash and the macro feature, and tried to get a few shots of him today when he popped out briefly for food in his colourful house:

and here is a short video of him:

What a cutie!

~ Doogie Howser in the New Old Spice Commercial

I remember watching the television show Doogie Howser when I was younger. I actually don’t think I saw very many episodes and really the only thing I remember from the show was that I think I liked it, and that at the end of each episode he would type on his now ancient desktop computer to write in his diary. Just think, Doogie Howswer was starting his would be online blog even back then!

Anyway, I like his new commercial for Old Spice, and it’s one of, if not The best of the Old Spice commercials. There is a better version on their website (http://www.oldspice.com), but here is the only one I found on You Tube:

~ Maximus II is Gone . . .

Well, if you have been following my updates in the column to the right under ‘Sue-Leigh’s lifeStyLe upates! (Twitter)’ also known as my Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/sueleigh), you have read my second betta fish Maximus II was gradually dying. And this morning he was gone. Died and sunk in between the green moss in the tank.

Since I have already experienced Maximus I dying, this one wasn’t as bad . . . no tears but I am still a bit sad.

SO! Any ideas on a new fish? I could get another Betta fish, or get a filter and have 5 small fish, or as a friend suggested, I could get a hermit crab . . . but those are at the beach and I won’t be going there until December, and fish move more.

But now we’re talking about a Roborovski Hamster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roborovski_hamster

aaah, well – “all pipes lead to the sea” -from ‘Finding Nemo’
Maximus is now in sea heaven.

Here is a photo from when I first got him:

~ The Last of the Birthday Cake Is Gone

Tonight after dinner, Gary and I finished the last of his birthday cake. Ice cream cake is Gary’s fave, and his company had him take the rest of the AMAZING White Chocolate Turtle cake from Bruster’s. Even better than Carvel, I think we have a new favourite ice cream (birthday) cake shop. Good thing birthdays are once a year . . . for a few reasons 😉

~ My New Pet Rock?

Here is a photo of a neat looking rock from my last trip to Chicago . . . did you ever have a pet rock? I don’t think I did, not even the kind with wiggly eyes, but if I ever did, I think I would want it to look like this one . . . but maybe smaller, so I can fit it in my pocket -hehe

~ I Got a Flat Tire Today

Well, at least I was close to a place I know, and not on a highway, but how annoying. I will say though, that I would highly recommend getting ‘Road Hazard Insurance’ if you get your tires from Just Tires.

I had a screw in the tire, and they had to replace the whole tire. What would have cost us $80, cost us nothing. So we got the ‘Road Hazard Insurance’ for the new tire for about $13. Totally paid for itself!

So here is the flat tire, the spare, and the screw that was in the tire:
