~ A Mini Death in the Family

I leave food out for my dwarf hamster Pixel on Friday afternoons for the weekend.  Like every day, he loves food and comes scurrying out . . . but not today.  I saw him yesterday and he was hyper and has been running in his wheel for the past 3-5 days in the mornings, I gave him treats, petted him (which he never let me do before).

I found him in a little nest of fluff and paper on his side.  He’s so peaceful and cute looking, but it’s so sad and . . . blah

I don’t want to talk about it (mom, please don’t call) I’ll just get all cry-ey and sad again.  I think I’m going to look for a little box and Gary and I are going to bury him.

Here’s what he looked like when I first got him about 1 year and 8 months ago.

* The King and Queen of Hearts

Alice in Wonderland is the theme for the season with the new movie out, though if you’re a prestidigitator, a card shark, or just want to send some love, these stamps are perfect for mailing your notes out.

I picked up a book or two at my local post office. They’re going to be cute on my easter cards 🙂

* Mulholland Scenic Parkway Drive

On Saturday, we took a drive along the pacific coast highway with a great view of . . . well, the pacific coast (through Malibu).

Then we drove up through the mountains and stopped along the Mulholland Senic Parkway, which was gorgeous, especially seeing the ocean from the mountains. The photo with this post was taken at one of the lookout points.

We also drove through Beverly Hills, and saw the very well known Hollywood sign – that isn’t as big as it appears in movies, but I heard there was a trail that brings you closer to the sign. Next time I’ll bring sneakers 🙂

No rain on the weekend, sunny but still cool. I’m looking forward to going back and hopefully do more in better weather. There were a lot of things we had planned on doing that were outdoor activities that wouldn’t have been much fun in the rain.

~ Museum of Natural History in Los Angeles County

Of all the types of museums, I usually enjoy going to natural history museums.  I don’t know if its the animals, or the environment, but they are usually interesting to me.

We went to the one in LA yesterday in the morning since it was a bit cold to do anything outside yet.  The main focus was dinosaurs, gems and minerals, birds, and insects.  There were also pieces of pottery, and really nice mammal exhibits.

Parking was $8 and the tickets were $9/adult but we spent an hour, maybe two there and it was interesting.

~ At the Santa Monica Pier

 We made it to the Santa Monica Pier in the evening last night.  It was friggen cold so we didn’t see much aside from the fair like rides and a few carts on the boardwalk.

Parking was about $7 and not really worth it since it was so unbarably cold annd not much else to do.

I think it would have been more fun if the weather was better/warmer and if there was an event going on, and it looks like a nice place to have a meal with the restaurants there with the view of the ocean . . .

I did like this shot of the ferris wheel I took with my celly 🙂

~ @ Redondo Beach Pier

Last Friday, we went to Redondo Beach Pier.  It had been raining pretty much all morning, and was only sprinkling, but sunny at 4:00-ish when we arrived and then went away.  Parking was only $1 (with a $4 max) for us since we didn’t stay too long.

Of course there was only an hour or so of daylight left, but there wasn’t a lot going on, and most of the food stands and shops were closed since its not the summer, and on top of that it was pretty friggen cold.  I felt like I brought the weather back from Raleigh -haha

I’m sure its one of those piers that is nice in the summer and where there are events going on.  It’s small, but it was nice to see the ocean and all the birds on the rocks were cool.

* Ceiling Bubbles

I did a little shopping at the Pavillion Mall in LA and one of the places I went to was a BCBG store.

They have these awesome bubble like balls hanging from the ceiling . . . prolly annoying to clean, but looks purrrty anyway.

I might do something on a much smaller scale in a window at some point.

* Make Your Own Frozen Yogurt Concoction

Frozen yogurt is pretty popular in LA, and last night we went to Yogurtland.

Basically you get a cup, put your choice of frozen yogurt in, add whatever toppings, and they weigh how much you have. Pay and enjoy!

The cups are fairly ginormous (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ginormous) so I put a little chocolate on one side and cheesecake on the other. Toppings were strawberries for the cheesecake, and butterfinger for the chocolate. Delish 🙂

I think their cups were from halloween?
