On the way to Chicago!

I’m blogging from my blackberry and on the road to Chicago! My friend Adrienne and I got on the road around 6:00pm after getting dinner, dropping off her car, I had to run to the camera store, etc.

I drove til around 10:30\11 and Adrienne is driving now so a perfect time for me to post an update. I should be posting updates for the next couple of days, including pictures! We are currently in Ohio and we might stop for the night or continue on, no definite plans, so check back in with us here later 🙂

M-Rock Arches Bag Review Update

An update on the M-Rock Arches bag which I got for vacations and trips. I was able to put all of my gear in the Arches bag with plenty of extra space.

The top compartment held extra accys, such as my 680 Polaroid, my Garmin, filters, etc. In the main compartment I was able to fit the following:

Canon 30D with Battery Grip BG-E2N
Canon 50mm 1.4
Canon 85mm 1.8
Canon 28-135mm 3.5-5.6
Canon 18-55mm 3.5-5.6
Canon 75-300mm 4-5.6 IS (recently replaced, more details later)
Cannon STE2
Canon 430EX flash
Flash Diffuser
Canon BP511A 1390mAh Lithium Ion Battery Pack
AA Batteries (put in the side compartment)
Various extra filters, cords etc.

I ended up returning the bag, because when it was on my back, it was not hanging straight, it would lay at an angle and therefore all the weight in the bag was not even and hurt my back. When I used the secondary strap, the bags’ main strap felt like it would fall off my shoulder. When I tightened the main strap, it would be too high to rotate. Everything else about the bag was awesome, and I think would be great if you don’t have heavier equipment, and then you may want to look into the smaller M-Rock Olympic

Instead, I am getting the Lowepro Fastpack 200, just realeased at PMAI January 31st. Pretty much the same dimensions, maybe a little bigger as the Arches bag, but its a backpack with two straps and a belt strap which is also a great feature to take the weight off which I use with my Tamrac backpack. It will still have the side/sling access, and with my own adjustments to the inside of the bag which will allow access to all my equipment (same adjustments I made to the Arhces bag) . . . I’m very excited.

Feel free to leave questions or comments if you have/had the Arches or other bag you use and like/dislike 🙂 I’ll post about the Fastpack I end up getting sometime next week once it’s in.

Christmas in February!

My friend Adrienne and I are known for exchanging Christmas gifts . . . not at Christmas time. Last year it was closer to June or July or something, but this year, I got mine yesterday! She’s getting hers on Friday and she is also getting her birthday gift then too. Obviously I can’t say what I got her since I know she checks out my blog 🙂

I got a really nice brown photo album with photo pages for Polaroid pictures for the Polaroid photos I have already. I took a Polaroid of my Canon SLR for the front window.

Check out the second part of my very cool gift! An SLR polaroid! The 680 folds down flat, and it’s so cool how it focuses . . . the photos are so sharp for a Polaroid, I’ll have to blog some of the photos I take with it!

Art Wolfe’s Photography Tips: Travels to the Edge

13 “tips”/sections with short video clips with photography tips from Art Wolfe. I saw him on PBS getting shots of bears and the show was very interesting, the bears being adorable didn’t hurt either. You can read more about his show on his site and check out the video tips here: http://www.microsoft.com/prophoto/icons/travelstotheedge/tips/default.aspx

What do you do with a lot of time on your hands?

Being sick, you spend a lot of time in bed sleeping and trying to get better, but what do you do with the time you are awake? I wasn’t even up for doing anything on my computer which is pretty odd for me, so mostly I’ve been watching a lot of Law and Order, movies on TV, eating Ritz mini peanut butter crackers, chicken noodle soup, very exciting.

On a more fun thought, I will be taking a road trip to Chicago with my good friend Adrienne! Part photo road trip, part business in town, so internet and time permitting I’ll be blogging from the road!

Check back starting later this week, charging batteries . . . now 🙂

Theraflu, Tamaflu . . . I have the flu

I have the flu, started yesterday and my symptoms got worse today. I could barely get out of bed this morning so I went to see my doctor today at 3:30. After sticking a q-tip up both nostrils into the nasal cavity which huuurt, their test said yes I had the flu. I caught it within the 48 hour period, so I can take the medication but it will still be with me for 5-7 days. Here is a site that lists the symptoms of the flu http://www.flufacts.com/symptoms/ so if you get any of the, be sure to go to your doctor and catch it before it gets worse. You may have it longer than a week.
