Panchan (반찬)

20110908-102558.jpg A few days ago, Gary (개리) and I got dinner (처녁) from a Korean restaurant on our way home. I took a picture of the panchan so I thought I’d post it.

In cooking class, we learned that panchan (반찬) are only panchan side dishes if they are served with rice (밥).

We also learned that they should always be in odd numbers. But the king had 12 … Because he was the king and he just could! Haha. He would also taste foods from different areas to see how the crops were doing throughout the day.

Cooking w/ My New Rice Cooker (밥솥)

20110905-120550.jpgThis morning I got to use my new Rice Cooker! Which is actually a pressure cooker rice cooker. This one is by a really well known Korean brand Cuckoo (쿠쿠).

It talks to you in Korean, and also sings a little tune and tells you when the rice is done ^^… and I like the turbo feature which cooks the rice quickly.

I also made Pajeon (파전), the Kimchijeon (김치전) version with Kimchi and scallions.

MRI

Today we took my dad to the hospital (병원) to get an MRI. Lately he has been having blurred vision so the doctor (의사) wants to make sure it is not related to the radiation he had about a month ago. We have an appointment for the results next week.

With Breakfast 아침 식사

20110901-051940.jpg This is a kind of tea in powder form that I bought from the Korean market. It has a lot of beans, sesame, and grains ground and mixed together.

I like it with less water to powder (more concentrated) because I can taste more flavour and sweetness. Then I drink it with a spoon, stirring before each spoonful because the denser powder settles otherwise. I am likely drinking this completely wrong, but I don’t care, I like it this way ^^
